Client Case AGC Glass

AGC Glass Europe is the European operating company of a Japanese world leader in flat glass. Polpo spoke with Niels Schreuder to learn more about his experiences with Smart Political Monitoring of the European Union.

Over AGC Glass

Meet: Niels Schreuder

Meet Niels Schreuder. He is EU public affairs and communications adviser at AGC. He set up the public affairs section within AGC to detect all European legislation in the glass industry at an early stage.

It is important to detect early what is coming at us: which legislative drafts are on the table? What can we already do and what not yet? European regulation plays a central role in making the sector more sustainable: we must continuously respond to CO₂ standards while at the same time making clear what is technologically already feasible and where there are still limitations. This requires an active role towards Brussels, where the sector not only reacts to policy but also contributes.

“You proactively receive information that you would otherwise have had to search for manually afterwards”

The Challenge

The biggest challenge lies in detecting European policy developments in a timely manner. Due to the large number of draft documents and internal discussions, monitoring is a time consuming task, which makes proactive action difficult.

Passive Sector Information

A lot of information comes from trade associations. Although these are valuable updates, they are often generic and shared with all companies in the sector. For AGC Glass it is important to proactively follow specific policy developments so that the company can bring its expertise at the right time.

Early Insight

European policy processes start long before official legislation is on the table. In Brussels, draft documents, discussion papers and preparatory agendas circulate first. Without monitoring it is difficult to detect these developments in time and impossible to prepare for them.

Smart Overview of Information (AI & Summaries)

Polpo’s new functionalities make information easier to understand and easier to share. The new AI features include automatic summaries that help Niels scan documents even more quickly. Because you can scan large amounts of text faster, quick action becomes the norm. "This way you don’t have to run behind the facts but stay ahead of them."

“It is great that we can help AGC Glass with their monitoring. This perfectly demonstrates how we help companies further automate political monitoring. As a result, they automatically stay up to date with everything happening in the EU, which can be quite complex due to the large number of sources.”
